Q: When is a coincidence more than a coincidence? A: When it is a synchronicity.
Synchronicities are in the air. There is an explosion of interest in these intellectually challenging and emotionally powerful events. They are associated with significant psychological change, transformation, transcendence, the expansion of consciousness, creativity, a purposeful driven life derived from making meaningful connections both with one’s self and others. They make their appearance in sudden, unexpected, dramatically profound ways analogous to seemingly random fire fly flashes. They are also associated with primary motivation including the role played by trust, hope, faith, intentionality, and persistence.
Paying careful attention to them is useful for a multitude of reasons. Among these reasons are:
•Cutting edge experiences in the “new Paradigm”
•Scientific anomalies
•Forces serious investigators to ask and answer core questions of their lives including: Who Am I, and What is my life’s purpose?
•A blueprint for determining what is of ultimate worth.
•Provides a formula for getting unstuck
•Provides a way to define and perhaps re-define complicated concepts including spirituality, creativity, causality, consciousness, and meaning.
•Connects a person to their personal and perhaps collective unconscious – assumed by many to be a link to a realm of transcendent spirituality thought to be a repository of absolute knowledge.
•Provides a framework in which a person can view their consciousness expand.
•Encourages people to think “out of the box.”
•Encourages people to gain knowledge using an interdisciplinary perspective.
•Challenges a person to examine their first assumptions about the nature of reality (ontology); knowledge of reality, and how knowledge of reality is accessed (epistemology).
•Exposes people to gain information in a variety of knowledge bases including: speculative philosophy, depth psychology, spirituality, science (quantum physics), and the esoteric occult.
•Enables a person to connect with his or her unique creative process.
•Provides a formula for an alternative form of logic (experiential logic) which is a combination of conventional linear causality (thinking) plus the addition of “messy” feelings, intuitions, and bodily sensation.
•Focuses on the role of chance, satori, peak experiences, re framing, serendipity, epiphanies, metanoia, consciousness expansion, and the like in forging a life of meaningful connections.
•Considered by many to be a bridge between science (reason) and spirituality (faith).
•Forces the serious investigator to answer the question as to who is the final authority in ones’ life.
As investigating the nature and uses of synchronicities is a work in progress, readers are encouraged to add any additional reasons.
