I'M GLAD PRESIDENT BUSH HAS SEEN THE LIGHT!

         WHEN IS TORTURE NOT TORTURE? WHEN IT IS JUST NOT IDENTIFIED AS SUCH!

The issue of torturing our enemies is back on page one for a change. And to think how misguided I have been to have thought that the flap over the U.S. authorizing torture of our enemies had not definitvely been put to rest. I mistakenly  thought that screaming at the accussed was Ok but nearly drowning a suspected terrorist using a method called water boarding was officially judged to be a bit over the top.

I don't know about you all but the news is not exactly clear-cut. Cases in point:

New York City and parts of New Jersey are pervaded by a mysterious, unidentified smell that forces many people to evacuate buidings. For a few hours thousands of birds drop out of the skies in Austin Texas and some city in Australia - dead. Probably poisoned. By who and what for is unclear. A few days ago "objective" professional pilots among others are stunned by sighting what for them was a clear perception of an unidenitifed flying object....

         Q: WHEN IS A PLANET NOT A PLANET? A:WHEN IT IS NAMED PLUTO

No big deal, you might say, if you happen to be reading about the revisionist revolution happening in the ranks of the astronomer's most elite - progressing even as we communicate.  This august body - full of themselves -are redefining the criterion for an object in outer space to be worthy of the name - planet.

SO LET'S SAY HEZBOLAH IN LEAGUE WITH IRAN TAKES OVER THE WORLD - THEN WHAT?

Now that there is the semblance of peace in the Middle East  - at least for the last few hours - the predictable aftermath is upon us. All sides are trying to pull the wool over the eyes of both their constituents' as well as the enemy that their side is the clear victor with a notable qualification.The Israeli parliament is in a full fledged critique of some obvious mismangement of the war to date.

With all the messyness, appearance of disunity, admission of weakness to Hezbollah  et.al the Israeli's still elect to face the realistic music and call it what bit is  - noise - rather than to pretend it is a great symphonic masterpiece.

In a previous article I thought there might be a glimmer of hope that rational heads might prevail. I think I was overly optimistic. Events of the last 24 hours suggest a much more ominous cast to the likely tides of this tragic war.

The following is a list of facts that taken individually or collectively do not portend a good ending for anyone concerned - meaning the whole world.

When I was a budding psychotherapist in l967 I got my first break to work as a psychologist at Odyssey House, an innovative therapeutic community for the treatment of heroin addicts. For the first three months I believed that I had discovered my personal Garden of Eden. During the next 14 months, "Eden" turned into Paradise Lost - a nightmarish experience that could aptly serve as a sequel to One Flew Over the Cuckoos' Nest.

My traumatic experience at Odyssey and what I have learned from it is useful in understanding the current political atmosphere both in America and the whole world. In this connection, Odyssey is viewed as a microcosm of the complexity of group interactions ranging from cooperation and good will on the one side to subjugation and abuse of authority on the other.

In this context a summer camp game called THUNDERBIRD dramatizes these points and has chilling implications with respect to understanding the nature of our current political landscape.

If this was Berlin in the 60s instead of New Orleans in 2003 - the President would have ordered an airlift around the clock.

President Bush where is the airforce??????????????? If this is not viable tell us why not.  There is an obvious need for a round the clock airlift - air drop -  air lift - air drop - air lift - air drop - air lift

CONGRESS, The TERRY SCHIAVO CASE, and THE AIR FORCE ACADEMY

FORCED STARVATION and FORCED FEEDING

The Congress in its infinite wisdom saw fit to personally intervene in the Terry Schiavo case. Many of its members (but not all) believed that they should exercise its influence in stopping what they judged was the inexcusable starvation of this tragic women - {getting mixed up in a 'political eating disorder'.

Whereas many Americans applauded the Congress' unusual intervention as only fulfilling their high ethical obligation,  many others did not. The dissenting group concluded that the Congress had over stepped its boundaries.

WORDS,TRUST, and DISSENT

               MAKING the WORLD SAFE for HYPOCRISY

President Bush has been highly vocal in his promotion of liberty for all the oppressed people in the world. For example, in his inaugural address he said:

We will persistently clarify the choice before every ruler and every nation: The moral choice between oppression, which is always wrong, and freedom, which is eternally right. America will not pretend that jailed dissidents prefer their chains, or that women welcome humiliation and servitude, or that any human being aspires to live at the mercy of bullies.
