BESIDES THE VERY WEALTHY WHO ELSE CAN THEY DEPEND ON?
There isn't a day that goes by when the media doesn't report another potential constituency 'bombed' by the Republicans. For example: today's headline reads:
It would appear that the Republicans will likely lose the votes of those on or near receiving medicare, the poor, needy, and handicapped, and all current and potential students.
For the last few weeks the Republicans have done their best to alienate women with their ill conceived war on contraception, and abortion. This is particularly odd in view of the conservative mantra for freedom from government interference. Somehow I can't help but feel there is a slight contradiction of getting government off our backs versus implementing laws which mandate invasive vaginal sonograms for women requesting abortions. The same contradiction occurs for womens' names being publicized who are seeking abortions in Tennessee and other states.
Goodbye women's votes.
Then there are the feelings and thoughts of other minority groups such as Latinos, and the Blacks. It appears there is not one progressive policy statement advocating progress for any of these group members. Are the Republicans simply writing off these groups as un american therefore a vote from any of their members would be tainted? Who cares about group members who are un amercian?
Added to this list would most likely be any liberal and fair minded conservatives who get nervous about the blurring of politics and religion.
Also don't overlook the "war" on the civil servants, teachers, fire fighters, policemen, and union members.
Additionally those who are tired of war and sacrificing the pool of men between 18 and twenty two for dubious results are not likely to vote en mass for those Republicans beating the drums for another war in Iran.
I also imagine that the very rich are not a unified block of unquestioning supporters either. Witness Buffet and others.
It is interesting to me that the media by in large supports the idea that this up coming Presidential election is going to be close. However considering the list above where are the Republicans going to draw enough votes to throw President Obama under the train or is it bus?
Oh - and one additional fact: when is the last time one can recall a President who has been free of scandal? If the President and his wife and children don't qualify as the epitome of "family values" then who fares better?
Finally there is the boredom, intelligence, character, trustworthy, and common decency factor. Yes it is true the Republican candidates rate high on consistency but consistency in obfuscation, lying, pandering, flip flopping, simplistic over generalizations to serve as effective answers to utterly complex issues, and a general sense of "you've got to be kidding."
If all of this is what appears to be factually accurate, then President Obama and the Democrats should sweep the next election. But you never know. If the orchestrated 'conspiracy' to clamp down on the 'widespread' voter fraud is successful perhaps the 'good' voters will indeed win the day.
Anyone for a cup of Tea?
