Please Pardon My Confusion
I don't know about you all but the news is not exactly clear-cut. Cases in point:
New York City and parts of New Jersey are pervaded by a mysterious, unidentified smell that forces many people to evacuate buidings. For a few hours thousands of birds drop out of the skies in Austin Texas and some city in Australia - dead. Probably poisoned. By who and what for is unclear. A few days ago "objective" professional pilots among others are stunned by sighting what for them was a clear perception of an unidenitifed flying object....
- A chilling Front Line documentary tracks the ressurgence of the Taliban in Afganistan clearly based in Pakistan.
- Premier Putin has little difficulty in cutting off the oil supplies to his restive neighbors which also happens to directly affect the fortunes of many European countries as well.
- Another chilling documentary from Nigeria shows bands of thugs methodically setting fire to the oil producers and getting stronger and more intimidating each passing day.
- Israel openly indicates to Iran that they may go to war if need be.
- Iran amost weekly threaten Israel with the same fate.
- The airforce bombs the Somali terrorists and thus widens the war on terror.
- Despite the overwhelming negative response to the Iraq war by well over 50 percent of the American people - President Bush - rather than planning a phased withdrawal is openly threatening Iran and Syria if they don't back down.
- Despite the partisan talk - the congress - both Democrats and Republicans seem truly confused as to whether to back the President or to pin him down.
- Those in Iraq are no less confused. They simultaneously want the Yankees to go home but not quite yet.
- Only the President and his advisors still act as though they are 100 percent convinced in the rightness of their ways.
- It must feel pleasant to be so cocked sure of what the future will bring.
- Of one thing I am certain - I think anything can happen in this kind of confusing atmosphere - like the hysteria that occurs at a lynching when otherwise sane, civilized plain folk get caught up in the Madness of the Crowds.
I could - but will not - continue. I think that perhaps I am a bit unbalanced in my perception of what appears to be an over amount of chilling and alarming news. But sometimes it appears to be this way.
I welcome those Gathers whose view of current events casts a more benign atmosphere than the one I am breathing.
If I pushed my churnings to the max I might conclude we are near or are actually in the begnining stages of World War III. I truly hope I am exaggerating. Please try to convince me that I am.
