THE JUDAS GOSPEL KINDA MAKES ME WONDER
The discovery of what is called the Judas Gospel appears to be striking for only one major fact. That fact is the fascinating pronouncement that Judas was asked by Jesus to betray him. So if accurate Judas has gotten a really bad name and there needs to be a serious review of the implications of this startling action.
I remember reading a book called The Passover Plot decades ago. The book advanced the radical position that Jesus and his disciples were highly intellectual and knew every moment what they were doing and why they were doing it.
Apparently during the time of Jesus the idea of the appearance of the Messiah was in the air. In point of fact there were many people who claimed to be the son of God acting out the predicted drama.
The book advances the idea that Jesus and his disciples acted out their predicted roles better than anyone else.
Asking Judas to "betray" him meant that Jesus would be an instantaneous martyr and make real his self sacrifice that is always associated by Christians as his most essential action.
Now let's say all of this calculated plan was true. In my opinion - as a non Christian - this possibility adds stature to Jesus as a very intelligent, clever, man of this earth. He clearly new how to appeal to those he wanted to reach and did so with flare.
Maybe this finding will stir a new perspective among all the living regardless of religious pursuasion as to what is really real and what is of ultimate value on this earth plane irrespective as to whether there is or not some transcendent "life" after death.
